Rahab the harlot was an Amorite gentile who put her life on the line and betrayed her own country to help hide and harbor 2 spies. She hid them on her roof under heaps of drying flax, and let them down to the ground with a cord. She then told them to hide in the mountains for three days and she put the scarlet cord out the window as they had told her to. She also made them promise to bless and save her and her family, once they were free.

I am guessing in addition to working at the family Inn and being a prostitute, she also made fabrics from the flax she was drying, and maybe even the scarlet cord she put out the window. The red cord that would notify the soldiers when they attacked her city, that she was a believer; just like with the blood, painted on the doorposts, they would pass over her household.

Later she married one of those spies, Salmon, who was a Prince in the house of Judah. She went from being a heathen to a lady married to a leader in the community. She also gave birth (or was the ancestor of someone who did) to Boaz who married Ruth.

Ruth was another gentile woman that gave her life to help someone besides herself; her mother in law, Naomi, a believer in God,

Both women were Jesus’ ancestors and rewarded with good husbands…salvation and a redeemed life for their unselfishness towards God’s people.

Rahab is the only other woman mentioned in the Hebrew hall of faith, besides Sarah.

Choose this day who you will serve and bless!!!
